What does it mean to be generous?

Luke caught some warm sun rays yesterday.

Luke caught some warm sun rays yesterday. I’ve been thinking about the question, “What does it mean to be generous?” I was at Pick n’ Save last week buying groceries. A young man in his 20s had a full cart ahead of me. When it came time to pay, his card didn’t have enough to cover the groceries. He walked away.

Afterwards, I kicked myself. Why did I not pay his bill? It was an opportunity to demonstrate generosity. It was an opportunity to acknowledge our humanity.

Tonight, I was at Walgreens buying a birthday card. The woman ahead of me in line was buying a few things. She put in her card and was $7 short. She was about to walk away. I pulled out some cash, and she allowed me to cover the shortfall.

It’s the night before Thanksgiving, and I’m thinking about generosity. What can we do to make things better? Even in the smallest of ways. We have to live our values. So, I ask you to be generous. If you have abundance, then share of that abundance. As they say, be the change you want to see in the world. Good night, sweet friends.
