Today’s anecdote

A back alley in Madison, Wisconsin

This morning, I had to go to the clinic and provide a urine specimen. I gave my date of birth to the technician, and she immediately calculated my age. She said, “Oh, you look good.” Afterwards, I talked to her a little more. She thought I was a decade younger than I am. She told me her mom is 42. She pulled out her phone and showed me a picture of her mother. “She looks good, too,” she said. I agreed.

Not a bad way to start the day, and not the first time, actually, that someone in their twenties mistook me for a younger man. If young people think I look much younger than I am, that’s quite alright with me.
